Rehabilitation of Over Bridge, River Churni

Scope of Work

• Complete survey and investigation of the bridge including NDT on concrete and evaluation of corrosion on steel parts
• Complete calculation of the bridge and design of the cables size
• Strengthening (thickening) of the concrete foundations
• Replacement of Main cable and anchorages
• Replacement of corroded steel members

70 m span suspension foot over bridge was constructed in the year 1998 by. In the year 2000 there was a massive flood and the water passed over railing ie. Bridge experienced almost 1.2 m height of water which is more than the normal human loading, and lot debris deposited over the bridge deck for some days. After this flood, sag was observed in the middle portion of the bridge. No design drawings were available. On further visual inspection it was found that the concrete foundation. Steel Pylon resting on foundations, Hangers connecting the Main cable with bridge deck, structural steel of deck and deck surface was in dire need of rehabilitation. In July 2018, the work was awarded to Freyssinet on Design Build basis.
